Fossil Hike
by Beau, Melissa, Joseph and Jacob, as told to Mrs. Mackey
On Thursday night we had a bumpy hike to find fossils. The terrain was rocky. Melissa and Beau both liked walking The sky was blue and there was no rain. Joseph saw five green, brown, and gray lizards. Joseph also saw two walking stick bugs and showed everyone else.

When we got to the fossil pit Mr. Mackey talked about the rocks and fossils. Then everyone walked around looking for fossils. Beau found a clam shell fossil. A long time ago this place was under water. Melissa and Beau and other Adventurers found cylinder fossils called crinoids. Jacob found one fossil. We looked for fossils until the sun went down. Then we hiked back to the cabins. When we got back we went to the campfire.

The Silver Spur Adventurers are back from the Cowboy Capital of the World, and have they got stories to tell (and some pictures to share)! Over the next several days, we'll post some of the stories they've written.
Watch for new installments every few days!

Silver Spur Trip by Melissa H. (as told to Meltzer)
This was Melissa's 2nd time at the Silver Spur. She liked the wranglers. They were really nice. The wranglers are Robin and Tracy. Robert and Jay also help with the horses. Tracy helped Melissa with her horse Texas. Melissa needed help on the hills. She was a little scared but she did it anyway! She really enjoyed it! She had lots of fun with the horses. Jay was fun to hang out with. Kay and Garry are the owners. Kay was out of town visiting her sick Daddy. She came back on Friday and Melissa was very happy to see sweet Kay!

Thanks to Matt Peyton and the Peyton Family Foundation, Adventurers, with several dedicated staff and volunteers, enjoyed a great baseball game Friday night at Dell Diamond. We traveled in style from the Academy in a chartered bus, sat at tables on the "Party Porch", and ate our fill of hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, and even ice cream from the buffet right next to our tables. It was fun to have several new Adventurers join us, as well. And, yes, the Express won... In the bottom of the 12th inning!

Adventurers are all about the outdoors, so this spring break we headed outside to explore, exercise, and learn about nature with our friends. Oh, yeah, we ALSO headed down to the Snake Farm in New Braunfels. I know, it just sounds nasty, but it's a really great, educational place.
Our Spring Break Camp ended this Friday, with hikes, games, and a cookout at Mary Moore Searight Park. Thanks once again to K'Cee Edwards for joining us for a camp sing-a-long to close the day!

We enjoyed another great time at Threadgill's Gospel Brunch on Sunday, with the music of George Ensle and the Groove Angels: Greg Whitfield, Mike Rieman, Jeff Hogan, and Evylyn Page. It was a great way to start the week and celebrate our new "official" tax-exempt status.
We'll see (and hear!) many of these friends at Spring Fest on May 11!

This Friday, Jim Swift from KXAN-TV visited the Academy to interview and film Adventurers in action. We showed him our nutrition and money math classes, reading activities, exercise and fitness program, a game of Adventurers Ball, and some of our campfire singing! The story should air sometime next week... We'll let you know.

But wait, there's more!

To top the day off, K'Cee Edwards dropped by in the afternoon to add his guitar, voice, and spirit to our campfire sing-a-long. He left with a promise to join us at our Spring Break Cookout next Friday!
